When you come across the term Numerology, the first word that comes to mind is numbers, and possibly next is “where does numerology come from”.
In the simplest of terms, Numerology can be defined as the study of numbers or seen as the universal language of numbers. Furthermore, numerology is basically concerned with the connections between numbers and personality traits, events and circumstances. It is a type of historic science that has its origin in countries like Egypt, India, Greece, and China.
How many types of numerology are there?
There are 3 major types of numerology which are; Pythagorean numerology, kabbalah numerology and Chaldean numerology.
Kabbalah Numerology (Hebrew Numerology)
This is the type of numerology that states that true knowledge and wisdom comes through the soul and mind rather than ones ego (flesh or physical body). The kabbalah numerology which is often called the Hebrew numerology too has a total of 22 vibrations spanning from 1 to 400. The initial idea behind this type of numerology was birthed originally from the Greek alphabet and was then developed to be used with the modern Roman alphabet. Alternatively, it also adopts some methods from the Pythagorean numerology to establish time periods.
This is much older than the Pythagorean numerology and is originated from ancient Babylon. It adopts some of the kabbalistic interpretations and combines it with some aspects of astrology. In this type of numerology, the number 9 is considered as a holy number, compound numbers are always used, and single numbers represent the external aspects of a person while double digits represent the inner aspects of a person.
The term Pythagorean was often from the Greek philosopher and Mathematician known as Pythagoras as he developed the theory of numbers. If one can do a flashback to the geometry class, he was behind the idea which stated that the hypotenuse of a right angle triangle is equal to the sum of the squares of the opposite two sides of the triangle.
His interest in spiritual development as well as metaphysics was what birthed the Pythagorean numerology. This type of numerology has similar characteristics to that of the Chaldean numerology in that the both types analyze name and date of birth and the interaction between the two. Finally, its number vibrations are; the ‘basic’ which are numbers from 1 to 9 and the ‘master’ which are numbers 11 to 12.
How does numerology work?
It is widely believed that in calculating some certain numbers, basically the names, date of births, there lies a chance that one might just get a clearer picture of themselves, others and even the world at large. Each letter of the alphabet has a corresponding number and being able to decode ones name could reveal the personality of that individual and in decoding ones birthday, it could also reveal one’s life path as well as the challenges and blessing that you would pass through during the phase of life.
Numerologists believe that numbers hold certain “vibrations” and to easily follow through with this idea, numbers can be linked to musical notes thus in numerology these vibrations of numbers are similar to a music score and depending on the position of the number can determine if it may produce some form of music.
